PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP)

Platelet Rich Plasma has gotten a lot of buzz over the past few years thanks to the Kardashians (the famous Vampire facial). But just because people talk about something does not mean it works.

As a plastic surgeon, Dr. Hazen approaches every possible new treatment with a critical eye and scientific inquiry. She does not jump on the bandwagon with new treatments, so she did a clinical trial to test if it does anything for rejuvenation and also did an extensive review of the literature to look at all the results for all its uses and determine its utility.

What Dr. Hazen found is that PRP does have benefits in both facial rejuvenation, hair growth for balding, and improving recovery time for face procedures like a peel, laser or facelift. In short, it is an effective cosmetic procedure and has the backing of a board-certified plastic surgeon and the medical community.

PRP is a natural product produced by your own body. Dr. Hazen will perform a simple blood draw and then your own blood is centrifuged and the layer with the highest concentration of platelets and growth factors is removed and injected or placed topically on the face or scalp.  The results are evidenced within weeks and the process can be repeated as often as monthly.  Patients who do this procedure for skin rejuvenation report smoother and more even skin and a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles.

Q & A

Q: What is the difference between PRP and fillers?

A: Good question!  PRP does not add volume! Fillers do.  PRP is like a beautiful drink for the skin that makes it look healthier and happier!

Q: How quickly will I see results?

A: Usually about a week later, and the result continues to improve for 6 weeks.

Q: How long do the results usually last?

A:  The results are not temporary, so really they last forever.

Q: Can you combine PRP with fillers for more dramatic results?

A: Absolutely, it can be used with Botox as well to soften the lines.  You can do one-stop shopping and come in for a quick tune-up.  It's a great treatment before a wedding, reunion or big event to help you look and feel your best. Great treatment for all men - because it does not add anything, and just enhances your own skin.
