Nipple and areola tattooing can be a great option for patients who have had breast reconstruction after mastectomy or lumpectomy, or for some top surgery patients who lose pigmentation after reconstruction. Micro-pigmentation is a perfect solution when patients are self-conscious about their areola being discolored. The color of the areola can be darkened, balanced, or enhanced to look more natural, as well as the nipple.
The procedure is done in the office and is painless. Recovery is 3-5 days, and a simple dressing change is the only aftercare. Sometimes the tattooing will be touched up with an additional procedure in 4-6 weeks, and some tattoos fade over time.
