MEET DR. HAZEN

Alexes Hazen MD, FACS is a New York City based aesthetic and reconstructive surgeon. She specializes in breast surgery, facial reconstruction, face transplant, transgender surgery, and aesthetic surgery including fat grafting and non-invasive techniques. Along with running her new private practice in the Upper East Side, Dr. Hazen is an Associate Professor at the Hansjorg Wyss Department of Plastic Surgery at NYU Langone Medical Center.  From 2002 to 2018 Dr. Hazen was the Director of the NYU Aesthetic Surgery Center, a position she let go of in order to create her own practice. Dr. Hazen has been an educator and practicing surgeon for almost 20 years and has received numerous awards for both her teaching and her work as a plastic surgeon. Dr. Hazen practices what she preaches - she not only performs a variety of cutting edge procedures but she is often at the helm of conducting studies and writing published papers on the very procedures she performs. She has co-authored over 60 publications many of which have won awards as well. Dr. Hazen is a very sought-after surgeon not only for her natural aesthetic and expertise but also because she provides a more holistic approach to longevity, health, and beauty. She believes that beauty and attractiveness are not just an external shell. More About Dr. Hazen

AMBITIOUS TRAINING

Dr. Hazen attended Brown University School of Medicine,  graduating in 1996.  She did residency at NYU Langone Health in the combined General Surgery/Plastic Surgery Program.  She completed a microsurgery Fellowship also at NYU.  In 2002 she began as an Attending at Bellevue and NYU hospitals, and then served as the Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at the Manhattan Veterans Affairs Hospital until 2011.  She has been the Director of the NYU Aesthetic Surgery Center since 2002 until  2018 when she branched off to create her own practice.

Having a holistic approach to plastic surgery, anti-aging, and wellness in combination with a highly academic background, makes Dr. Hazen's private practice particularly unique. Dr. Hazen is interested in helping patients transform both body and soul through the latest technology and innovations. ​ 

 

Her clinical interests lie in breast surgery including cancer reconstruction and aesthetic surgery, facial reconstruction, face transplant, transgender surgery, and aesthetic surgery including fat grafting and non-invasive aesthetic techniques.  She does extensive research on the quality of life particularly relating to post transgender affirming surgeries. 

AWARD-WINNING EDUCATOR

Dr. Hazen is the Vice Chair of the NYU IRB Board and has served on the Board since 2003.  She was a member of the NYU Faculty Council and served as a Faculty Senator and as Faculty Secretary, an elected position from 2012 to 2014.  She was the Medical Director of the Hansyorg Wyss Department of Plastic Surgery at NYU Health and the Director of the Faculty Practice Group from 2011 to 2018. She is a regular host of the Sirius Radio Doctor Radio’s “Plastic Surgery Show” and has been since its inception in 2008.  She recently has been a part of the Face Transplant Team at NYU and participated in the latest face transplant, as well as the initial face transplant at NYU which was considered the most extensive face transplant to ever be performed.

Dr. Hazen's research interests are in virtual surgery and resident education, quality of life and outcomes following surgery (specifically transgender surgery), transgender surgical techniques, fat grafting, and stem cell research, and PRP uses and outcomes.  She has numerous book chapters, and peer-review articles,  publications, and presentations.  She is a frequently invited speaker and has had numerous media interviews on her expertise in plastic surgery, transgender surgery, medicine, wellness, and anti-aging.

SUPPORTING THE COMMUNITY

Dr. Hazen served on the Board of MYFAce for children with craniofacial differences for over 10 years,  AIRS for breast reconstruction, and ABHAYA wellness in the Brooklyn community.   She is on the governing Board of Women for Women by IPRAS and has directed and participated in numerous medical missions to help women and children who are victims of violence.
