Fat Transfer with Dr. Hazen

As we age, we lose volume in our faces. As time and gravity exert their effects, these transitions become more pronounced as soft-tissue volume slowly dissipates. The transitions in the face (from the lip to the nose - the nasolabial fold,  the junction of the lower eyelid and cheek - the "tear trough", and the progression of the jowl to the chin (the marionette line), all tend to become accentuated as we age. There are a variety of "fillers" that can be used to replenish lost facial volume as well as your own fat!  Fat cells can be harvested through liposuction from your own body and injected to smooth wrinkles and other areas in need of volume.  Total win-win. And the results are permanent!

Fat Transfer Procedure

Known as autologous fat transplantation, fat transfer, autologous fat grafts, fat injection - fat cells are gently removed from the abdomen, thighs, or buttocks, and prepared and then transferred to problem areas of the face or elsewhere on the body (breasts, scars, buttocks). Fat transfer or autologous fat grafts can be used to rejuvenate the face by softly filling folds and wrinkles, restoring volume to your lips, highlighting cheeks, and contouring the jawline and chin.  Fat can also be transferred to the body - breasts, buttocks, and scarred areas!

Who is a Candidate for a Fat Transfer?

Anyone who is healthy and has a little fat to spare is a candidate for this amazing procedure! Fat transfer is ideal for patients with wrinkles, folds, or areas of volume loss of the face, or elsewhere on the body.

Post Surgery Recovery

Recovery entirely depends on the volume of fat transferred.  Small amounts of fat can be harvested in the office under local anesthesia and transferred to areas of the face such as lips or cheekbones, with little to no downtime or recovery!  For larger amounts of fat, the procedure is performed in the operating room under general or sedation, and recovery is generally up to one week.  Compression garments are worn over the area where the fat was removed. Patients can expect bruising and swelling in both areas  - where the fat was removed and where the fat was transferred.
